Kanye West & Justin Timberlake To Appear On SNL's 40th Anniversary Special

Kanye West and Justin Timberlake are scheduled guests on Saturday Night Live’s upcoming 40th anniversary special.

Set to premiere on February 15, the show will also include appearances from Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Robert Deniro, Derek Jeter, Tina Fey, Adam Sandler, Jerry Seinfeld, Amy Poehler and Bill Murray, among others.

Yesterday (February 1), SNL released a parody biopic trailer featuring white actors Mike O'Brien, Jason Sudeikis, and J.K. Simmons as Jay Z, Kanye West, and Nas respectively. The sketch parodies the state of whitewashing in the film industry and also portrays a scene explaining the resolution of the rapper's beef with Nas and an imagined first meeting between Jay Z and Beyonce.

Twista Calls Chicago A "Melting Point Of Music"

Sitting down for an interview with Steve Lobel, Chicago native Twista spoke on the current Chicago Hip Hop scene and the newfangled sound coming from the city.

During the conversation, Twista spoke on the huge variety of sounds coming from Chicago. With the likes of Chance The Rapper and King Louie all creating a different sounds, Twista likened the city to a melting pot of music.

“As far as the sound of the music and the vibe, I tell everybody, we’re a melting pot,” Twista says. “Even though it may seem like there’s a lead sound when you hear what Chief Keef or [what] different artists do — he’ll tell you one of his favorite artists is a Gucci Mane or something like that. The dope part is that [when] I hear Chicago or the Midwest, a lot of the music is driven by the South and what I hear coming from Atlanta and the whole South vibe which is dope. We’re so much of a melting pot that how do you explain me, Do Or Die, Vic Mensa, Chance The Rapper, King Louie? How do you explain these guys? You got all these different sounds.

“The dope part about Chicago is even though it may have a lead sound so to speak because you have artists like Chief Keef and Lil Durk taking the vibe of Chicago right now and putting it on their shoulders, you’ve still got so many vibes of sounds and we’re just like a melting pot of music," he adds.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Twista revealed that he’s currently working a project with Do Or Die.

“Well right now I’m working on a Do Or Die project,” Twista says. “People don’t know that but we got an EP that we finishing up. One last week we finishing it up. [It’s] not gonna be your typical ‘Twista and Do Or Die,’ project like, you gon’ hear it and we definitely gonna put you right back in that car when you were listening to ‘Po Pimp’ and certain songs. People make things for different reasons but we definitely wanted to recapture ourselves and give that back to the fans.”

KRS-One Says He can't Make Money In The U.S. Due To Lack Of Respect For Hip Hop

After being asked about the connection between the social context, political context, and the official birth of Hip Hop in the 70s, during an interview with Vlad TV, KRS-One addressed a number of topics including the lack of respect for Hip Hop in America, Public Enemy’s pull on revolutionary white kids, and more.

The Bronx, New York lyricist started off by stating that being a part of America was never a goal for those in his generation. He then questioned why he has to currently travel to a country like Switzerland to make money as a Hip Hop artist.

According to KRS-One, Hip Hop is more accepted by the government in a place like Switzerland than it is in the United States.

“Our parents were on their hands and knees begging to be a part of America,” KRS-One said. “We were never part of that, ever…Blacks and Latinos get it the worst. We get it the worst in America. But the white people in America too started looking. And just a sense of justice. Was just like ‘Wait a minute, why is it like this if it should be like this?’ And this is when Hip Hop exploded. With Public Enemy who was representing Minster Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam. And their whole audience was white kids…You can tell that the government here [Switzerland] is lenient towards Hip Hop. Towards it elements. Breaking in the street, graffiti on the wall, people rapping. I can’t make money in America. Why am I here? It’s 2013, okay. Why is KRS in Switzerland and not in Ohio…The political leadership of Ohio don’t respect me.”

KRS-One also spoke on one of the founders of Hip Hop, Afrika Bambaataa. While speaking on Bambaataa, the rapper revealed that Hip Hop wasn’t as impromptu as a network like MTV might have led people to believe, and was instead a deliberate and carefully planned out movement.

“What built this movement, what made this all come together is a guy names Afrika Bambaataa,” he said. “He is the sole author of Hip Hop’s cultural existence. I’m called an architect of Hip Hop culture cause I popularized it. But Afrika Bambaataa is the first one to tell all of us, ‘Let’s come together under this banner called Hip Hop. And we gon’ call ourselves Zulu Nation. But really, it’s Hip Hop. It’s this new thing that we’re gonna cause in the world.’ It was deliberate. Hip Hop was never a mistake…Those principles: peace, unity, love, and having fun. Became the principles for this new culture called Hip Hop. Afrika Bambaataa would meet with us regularly. This was no haphazard thing. We just rapping on the corner. That’s MTV’s history. Real Hip Hop history is Afrika Bambaataa sitting everybody down and saying ‘Listen, all this black, white, red, yellow is stupid. We’re all human beings. Let’s come together on that.’”

Charlamagne Says Ma$e Needs To Delete His Rap Career

Months after Power 105.1 radio personality Charlamagne Da God and rapper Ma$e engaged in a confrontation in Miami during the REVOLT Conference, The Breakfast Club host has addressed the incident during an interview with Vlad TV.

According to Charlamagne, the Harlem rapper was upset about comments he made on-air. While speaking with Vlad TV, he defended his remarks about what he feels is Ma$e’s bleak music career and criticized the musician, who he referred to as a hypocrite, for bouncing from pastor to positive rapper to G-Unit affiliate.

“I just think Ma$e is a hypocrite,” Charlamagne Da God said. “His career’s—You can’t reheat cold French fries. That’s what I say when it comes to your career. You can’t reheat cold French fries, Ma$e. It’s like you had your time…It’s like you can’t go from rap to doing something as extreme as being a pastor then come back to rap. And when he first came back, the first comeback was kinda interesting because it was the first time he had done it. And he was saying he wanted to deliver a positive message. Then he was on the 'Jesus Walks (Remix),' which makes total sense. So, we was paying attention. And then he left again. Went back to the church. But then you come back with G-Unit, bruh? Trying to be Murder Ma$e again? Fuck outta here…Nobody’s checking for that."

He then revealed that Ma$e felt that he was being blackballed by deejays in New York City and that Charlamagne was the one behind the blackballing.

“And the thing about Ma$e—Ma$e was like he felt like he was getting blackballed by deejays in New York City,” the radio host said. “And he said I’m leading the blackballing. Number one, I don’t have no reason to blackball you. And number two, I said ‘Ma$e, it’s not about being blackballed, it’s just that it’s not the 90s no more, bruh.’ That’s what I told him. ‘This ain’t the 90s anymore. You’re not the same guy. These new kids don’t know you. You gotta start from scratch.’ If you come with heat, people will fuck with it. Obviously, you’re not coming with heat.”

Charlamagne later named Cam’ron, Lil Wayne, Jay Z, and Nas as artists who began their rap careers decades ago and are still successful today, before suggesting that Ma$e delete his rap career.
